Aaz safe boost
« on: October 18, 2018, 07:15:34 pm »
How much boost can stock internals handle? I just took my taco with a freshly rebuilt aaz with arp head and main studs and its making 34psi with my holset he221w. The thing flies but I think this might be a bit much for it? I'm upgrading to an alh in the near future but I need to sell this without a hole in the block 😂

With stock boost about 10 psi max, you must be pretty close! ;)

Close to "Bang!" that is.

I'm the wrong one to ask, as I find walking much slower than a slow, but working, car. ;D

My old AAZ lasted 6 months at 40psi with a t3. But it had stock studs. It suffered the common cyl#3 main rod cap failure. I’ve seen it happen to quite a few. The early 1.9s had weaker mains (so I’m told) and with a lot of boost it tends to crack them and shoot them through the block

I have acquired an aaz that had exactly this happen to it.
 Big hole in the block.
What is the likely-hood that the cylinder head will still be ok after this catastrophic failure? I've not disassembled the engine to look yet.

max boost really depends more on the turbo and how much fuel is going with it.

40 psi from a stock t3 is going to be a lot harder on an aaz than an he221
