AAZ vacuum pump.....did I bugger it?
« on: September 30, 2018, 12:01:59 pm »

Earlier......I was struggling to get the vacuum hose off the outlet of the aaz vacuum pump. While twisting and torquing on the hose to break it free, I noted that the outlet on the vacuum pump now spins, when it didn't before. I have I made a vacuum leak? If so, how to fix?

My brakes are not working well......brake booster may not be working.....will trouble shoot today.

Does anyone know what the vacuum, Hg, inches of mercury,  should be for the aaz at idle? and more rpms?

 Thanks.

Spokerider, it is time for you to remove the three bolts that hold the top of the pump on and drill and tap the hole in place of that broken outlet and put a metal one on there.  Not a big deal, many of us have that configuration.

If you can't build and hold a vacuum of 30 lbs on the booster then you have a leak.  I keep a vac gauge on mine at the pump all the time and it drops when multiple hits of the pedal are used but it comes back up pretty quickly to 30 once I stop doing that.

If you mean this,
I just swapped in a used one that the plastic outlet was leaking from some previous damage.   Used a marine 2-part epoxy putty that you knead together.
While you have it out spray the check valve out and make sure it's working good.

Thanks for the input guys.
I got a spare vacuum pump and swapped caps. All good now.
