Compressiong Test Gauge Drop
« on: September 18, 2018, 05:29:04 pm »
Much to my relief I have decent compression for an old 1.6TD after swapping heads. Less then 10 seconds of cranking resulted in the following after warming up the engine to about 180 degrees:

cyl 1: 390 psi
cyl 2: 410 psi
cyl 3: 410 psi
cyl 4: 410 psi

However, the gauge seems to drop immediately after the gauge peaks. Each one slowly goes down to about 210 psi. So logically, I'm assuming there's something faulty with the gauge, the pin associated with the gauge or something within the engine. Had anyone experienced this and does this give rise to concern?

If the reading drops without you releasing the pressure, the tester is faulty.  Simple as that.  If it drops slowly enough that you can get a decent reading it doesn't really matter, though.
