1.6 headgasket?

So I have been noticing black sludge slowly building up in my coolant reservoir for the past 3 years. About 2 months ago the car started to skip. Today I finally pulled the head to investigate. No visible issues other than the gasket starting to fall apart around the coolant passages. Is it possible the gasket separated internally to cause the misfire? Im surprised I did not have any water in the combustion chamber
