1.9 TD AAZ intercooler options
« on: July 02, 2018, 02:04:08 pm »
Hi guys, new to forum... Don't have any VW's but did install a 1.9 TD AAZ in a 1989 suzuki sidekick, it was t boned and wrecked..but now i have another one...

This time I would like to do most of what was provided in "how to make a 1.9TD faster thread"

Just looking for options on intercoolers and advice in install as i have little to no experience with them...
What are common intercoolers of choice, I have seen a few mention, Saab 900 or some Mazda one...

are all intercoolers requiring custom pipe work?
Were Saab intercoolers only used because of limited space in VW engine bays?

Also have access to a 1.6 TD parts engine

Any tips, advice, links, anything helpful would be appreciated

Sounds like a fun swap!

As for intercoolers all require some custom piping as the AAZ never came intercooled.

You can use essentially any intercooler but dont go too big.  Something factory from another turbo or diesel vehicle would suffice.

Lots of turbo cars now a days so just pick something that will work nicely in the samurai's engine bay.

Personally im using a mercedes sprinter intercooler on my modified AAZ with a Giles pump
