1.6 or 1.9 - can't decide
« on: June 13, 2018, 01:22:00 pm »
Hello to everyone
I need help,I have 2 complete engines 1.9 NA 65hp,2x 1.6 NA diesels 54 hp  and one 1.6 td 80hp but timing belt broke so I suspect the head is ruined. I want to make setup with what I have so I need advice. I would like to use 1.6 TD block with 1.9 NA head and use turbo and pump form 1.6td. Could I just use 1.6 NA block and head and slap turbo to it? Car is only for traveling to work and i want to run it on biodiesel. Turbo is not necessery. I need it to last  about 50000 km. In what problems I could come into, and is there some better solution?

I am sorry for bad english, and i am not mechanic but i would like to learn and i have some time and space for mistakes

Honestly I think its all about how many miles are on these engines. That is unless you like to do this kind of stuff. I had 1.9 NA and it was a badass engine. Now I have a 1.6 TD eco (no boost enrichment) and I like it better. It is faster and doesn't spew out black soot when I try to keep up with traffic. Hills are way more doable in the 1.6 td. Again that 1.9 NA is rock solid, but 1.6 td is more refined in my opinion. I have 1.6 NA and it is no where near the 1.6 TD. This is probably because it is a 1981 and just not taken care of as well or something. Again if your turbo has 400,000 miles on it I wouldn't put it on personally. Maybe get it rebuild first. But if you have time, a 2nd car and land to work on these things than it don't matter, throw it on. IMO

I will use 1.6 NA because turbo is not in good condition. This week I am going to change oil, fuel and air filter, new toothed belt. Engine should be in car and running in first week of the next month.
