What are the EGT's at idle?
« on: June 03, 2018, 08:44:02 pm »
Guys, I have installed a GReddy egt gauge and probe on the aaz. The probe is installed in the exhaust manifold, pre turbo.
The gauge face dial markings start at 300 deg F and goes up from there.

At idle, the gauge needle doesn't even hit 300 deg. Even with the fans cycling and the coolant at 180 deg.  Is this normal / to be expected?  I did pull the probe and hold a BBQ butane lighter to it's tip, got it glowing a dull red. Put that down and went to look at the gauge........the needle was at about 400F and already moving back down. So, the gauge / probe work [ but properly?? ] , I'm just not sure what the egt's should be at idle.

One last consideration, dunno if has a bearing on it or not.....there is no exhaust installed yet, just the down tube coming from the turbo. Stock engine, no fuel mods [ yet ].

 Thanks.

My 1.6 non turbo will idle at a hair over 200 on my gauge.  It starts at zero.  It comes up to 400 pretty quick on a high idle and drops just as fast if I take my foot out of it.  With your gauge starting at 300 I don't think you will see it move until you are accelerating through the gears.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I'll get to driving it on the road and see what happens  ;)

Just getting my diesel samurai build completed, and my worry was that I had just installed an expensive, non working egt gauge  ::)

As I shift up and hold it in third for a bit I generally see it bump to 6 and if I keep it there I might see 8 and I am winding it out then.
