AAZ Boost / rpm.

Hi

I have a VW Golf Mk1 with 1.9 TD AAZ motor, stock K03 turbo.

That is a small turbo and I think it spools a little too late?
Turbo is coming strong at 3100rpm.

Plan is to put a little bigger turbo on, T3 or so later, will the boost come on a later than 3100 rpm?

Info:
-Boost Pin
-1 Bar /1,1 bar turbo boost.
-3” DP and 2,5” exhaust
-Stock turbo, K03.
-Fuel adjusted.


I have tried to adjust more diesel, but it will not spool earlier. Just more smoke.


I did not drive the donor car so I do not know what is normal boost/rpm.

The K03 is very small and on an AAZ will reach max boost just off idle.

I do not know, never touched it, need to check.

Is it normal to adjust that?
I only have a valve on the hose from turbo to wastegate. Adjust the valve to about 15 psi.

I was testing a little yesterday 

I can push wastegate rod about 1 cm with my hands and I guess it’s not stuck then?


I tried to shorten the rod about 2-3 mm and the boost dropped to 0,8bar and less turbo sound.
Max power from turbo was at 3100rpm now also.


Maybe it’s normal? it boost about 0,5 bar at 2500rpm.

I adjust it back and now it boost 1 bar.

It should boost 15 psi by 1000 rpms or so.  7 psi @ 2500 rpms on a K03 means there is something wrong.

I have an AAZ with a T3. I have the  controller set to 20psi max, but it will sure go higher. I'm seeing lots of boost by 2000 rpm with a big exhaust and downpipe. I have A Giles pump and injectors and ARP studs and bolts throughout.

15 psi at about 1000rpm- and up to red line?


Now I have 15 psi at 3100 rpm - to red line, but then it runs good also.

Any suggestions to the problem?

Turbo, vacuum, diesel pump?

Exhaust leak before the turbo? Maybe the wastegate isnt seating properly? Something is definitely wrong. Try turning the fuel up more. If it doesnt help id pull the turbo and do the gaskets and inspect the waste gate
