How do you test oil squirters?
« on: March 08, 2018, 11:33:38 pm »
Oil squirters are supposed to stay closed at lower oil pressure.
They open up and start squirting when the pressure hits a certain point.
 What's that point?
And has anyone built a way/tool to test them.
Can I use air instead of liquid?

I would think you could fabricate a tee that would accept the oil squirters on the one side, have a good oil pressure gauge on the top and a section of pipe, say 4 inches long on the third threaded hole.

That pipe could be filled with oil and attached to an air supply that you could regulate slowly.  When the squirters spray, note the oil pressure at which they do.  Check all four and compare.  Any that seem to let go early or late, run some solvent through them instead of oil and try again.

I would use the oil over air itself as there are subtle differences between oil and air and you want to know how they perform using oil.

i believe that somewhere it was written that the pressure wasn't very high, something like 80 psi or less.  May be you could do something as simple as using a pop tester and nylon tubing; assuming your pop tester gauge was accurate at that low of a pressure?

I have tested them using an injector tester.  I don't recall the opening pressure, but it is much less than 80 psi.  More like 10psi if memory serves.  I thought it was in the mk2 Bentley, but with a quick look I didn't find it.

The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

That sounds about right.  Did you find that in the Mk2 Bentley?  What page?

I don't have any injector testers that go down that low accurately.
Andrew I thought I saw your squirter tester on your bench when I stopped by but didn't get around to asking if that's what it was.

I don't think that air will give an accurate reading.  I would use a thin oil.
