Do a little more research on the w56. Depending how much power you might run into issues. W56 was made for a 137ft-lbs motor. Putting 250-300ft-lbs from a built mtdi is going to be hard on it. Supposedly the r150f is twice as strong as the w56. You might run into issues and you might not. The reason i went r150f is the peace of mind knowing the tranny can handle the power with ease, plus r150fs are a lot easier to find around here then w56's. If i went w56 and had problems the cost of a new adapter plate is unappealing.

W56 has a stronger t case and the ability to run dual t cases but the tranny is weaker
R150f stronger internals but weaker t case. Can run a w56 t case with a $300 adapter plate and go dual t cases if you desire. Its a cheaper upgrade then a new adapter plate to go r150f if you have issues. Although with 33" tires i doubt youll need dual cases.

So if I use the R series I'll need to find a turbo 4cyl bellhousing, correct? Or is there a company that makes an adapter for a TDi to a V6 trans? All the adapters I find are for 4cyl trucks.

Acme makes a kit for the v6 trans, I'm not sure why they don't list it on their website. Contact Jeff and he will set you up.

You can either buy a kit for the w56 and use a r151f bell housing which would let you bolt on a r150f transmission or just buy the r150f kit. The r151f came on the 22re turbo and is super rare and very expensive. Its basically an r150f with slightly different gear ratios and the special bell housing. keep in mind the older r150f's use a passenger side drop t case for the driveshaft and the newer r150f's use a drivers side drop. Make sure you buy the correct one for your front end. also 4.88's might be a bit small for 33's and a tdi. 4.56 or 4.33 might be better but that's something you don't need to worry about until its on the road and see how it drives.

Something to consider, the Toyota transmission doesn't have anyway to be used to find tdc for setting the timing on your engine. My plan to address this is.  The adapter plate covers 3/4 of the transmission, there is a small plate that bolts onto the bottom of the bell housing to keep mud and dirt from the clutch and flywheel. I plan to bolt the plate onto the transmission and then drill 2 holes through the plate into the tranny and install dowel pins to keep alignment. I then plan to cut an opening with an arrow in the plate and then mark the back of the flywheel at tdc, then make a small cover for the hole. I'm not sure if this would work with ifs, but with my sas its easy to see the back of the flywheel.

Currently I'm rolling on 35s, so for now the 4.88s should be fine. I'm probably gunna go junk yard searching soon for a v6 trans. I may sas the truck this summer, simply for more aftermarket options and better offroad performance. I think I can recover a lot of the cost of the swap through selling my current 350 swap gear. I see td conversions has a kit to make the back of the tdi look like a small block chevy but I think even though the th350 is a very strong transmssion I think it would be a poor choice for the tdi.

Finally found an R150f! Should be able to start working on the swap soon. Does Acme's V6 kit utilize the alignment dowels?

Yes it does. You want a starter from the 3.4l Tacoma/4runner and the clutch from one of those as well. I have a petroworks 2 3.4l clutch if you want it pretty cheap. Its used but has a ton of material left on it. I got my kit new 2nd hand from ebay. Before it arrived I asked jeff at acme what clutch and starter I needed. Turns out the one I got was from an older model and used the 3.0l flywheel so I had to buy a different clutch. pm me here or facebook if you want it.

Did you get the proper drop (passenger or drivers side) r150f for your front axle?

k make sure you get a slave cylinder from a 3.4l as well. The 3.0 slave doesn't have enough throw for the 3.4 flywheel. or too much I don't remember exactly but it wont work properly.
