Bearing Contribution to Lower Oil Pressure??
« on: August 25, 2017, 11:18:18 am »
If you cannot feel any free play in the big end rod bearing with your hand, does that necessarily
mean that the bearings are ok and not contributing  in a significant way to lower oil pressure??

If no free play in the rod bearings, does that imply that the main crank bearings are ok???

This engine has never been driven hard and has had the oil and filter changed every 3000 miles.
I was surprised at how clean the oil pan was having pulled it for the first time.

Comments, please.

By the time there is enough play that you can feel it with your hand you'd have a pretty serious rod knock...

Bearings can be worn enough to cause low pressure without having slop. That said, if you are chasing an oil pressure problem I would start with the outer intermediate shaft bearing and go from there. They frequently get damaged due to overly tight timing belts.

Tommie, read the first post....look at the pictures.
You have access to a lot of info if only you put forth the effort. Shortcuts will get you where you are going...rather quickly.
