Ignition question

(1/2) > >>

b00mhower:
So I just bought a 97 passat tdi. My first vdub and my first diesel. Only major issue is with the ignition, it has to be turned all the way back to the start position then pulled up and left to get the starter to engage. The seller said it needed a new switch but i just want to make sure I need an ignition switch not a new lock cylinder and switch. Key turns just fine to all positions and has no problems going in or coming out. Any ideas? Thanks all

Sorry I might be in the wrong sub, I'm not sure if 97 is b4 or b5

Sure sounds like a switch and not the cylinder to me.

Thank you, I hate doing stuff like this without another opinion

Buy an actual VW switch, not an aftermarket one. The aftermarket ones are known to fail quickly leaving you stranded.
