1.9TDi MLS head Gasket on a 1.6TD
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:31:43 am »
Hi ALL

Posting on behalf of a friend.
he was replacing the cylinder Head Gasket on his 1.6TD, Engine Code MF, and ordered 1.9TD AAZ head gasket. part number 028103383BK.

but unfortunately, the HG he received was 028103383BQ, which is supposedly for the early 1.9TDi's.

the only visible difference is the reinforcement for the pre combustion chambers.
can we use 028103383BQ, 1.9TDi gasket  on the 1.6TD.

MF is a mechanical block isn't it?
Using a hydro head gasket can be tricky on a mech block.

MF is typically a hydraulic engine.

The TDI gasket cannot be used, as mentioned it won't seal around the prechambers properly.

I've had both MF blocks that were solid lifter and MF blocks that were hydraulic.  I've always found it fairly amusing that VW used the same block code for two non-interchangeable block designs.
