life expectancy of cooling system o-rings

My 92 Eco diesel has been running great with almost zero troubles, that's why I haven't been here looking for help. Since fixing all of the leaks (oil, tranny) it does not leave unsightly spots on the new concrete driveway.

The engine has always needed coolant top up of approx 8 oz every few months, more often when the weather gets cool with 40 F nights, and drips a few drops on the driveway overnight. After a bit of looking, found it was leaking from the coolant flange on the side of the head (flywheel end). This flange has a 4 pin temp sensor with o-ring (for the AC afaik), which makes it a 2 o-ring flange. Coolant was seeping out of both o-rings overnight. When the engine is hot, I do not see coolant dripping onto the ground.

After removing the flange, found both o-rings flattened and hard. Luckily, I have an old aluminum flange with no sensor which does not use o-rings but still have an old fiber gasket still stuck to it. I cleaned it off and filed the gasket flat, installed it with a light film of RTV and no more leaks. I think that will be a permanent fix.

What is your experience with the life expectancy of these o-rings? They are all over the engine on the flanges and water pump.

Cold water leaks are generally where you will see failure first.  With everything warmed up and expanded the o-rings get held tight.  The majority of the rings should be newer than the car, I can't imagine the thermostat and water pump have never been changed.
Generally, anything beyond about five years is bonus time, you may get longer if the coolant is maintained.
