rabbit tdi-m vs. boxster
« on: April 21, 2006, 07:29:45 pm »
it wasnt really a race, but, we were coming up to a light,,we both picked the left lane,i was behind him,,,this  road has 2 lanes each way,,, the reason we picked the left lane was there was some slow pokes in the right,,so the light turns green,,and we go easy up to about 35 or 40(its a 50 zone),im in 3rd or 4th,,well he wasnt on it,,but was just enough to dust the slowpokes. at around 45 or 50,,he got on it, by that time im in 5th,well i  gave him a second to see it accelerate,i wasnt too impressed,,,then i downed into 4th,hit the water inj.and was right there on him again,,,as we got up to 85 or so  it was close,,he didnt pull away, but ididnt gain much either, but i was gaining,,,no doubt he would have top end advantage. like i said, not a race, but fun time,,, im thinkin that if we werelined up,,i coulda got himoff the line and held it good,,,,since i got this car going ive been waiting for a good stoplight race with a stupid ricer,,,,,the other day some dude in a camry was in the left lane(same road),and he was in a hurry,,so off the line i went easy, like 2nd gear off theline,,he went out 3 or 4 lengths from me ,, he thought he had me,but i wasnt even spooling 10 psi yet,, we were up to around 35 mph  or so,i nailed it in 3rd for a second(maybe a few),,so i know i was gonna be ok in the traction department,,just came up to his front end,i mean side by side,,and i let off,,sorta felt dorky messin w/a camry,,but i was itching for a run,and he was getting on it,,,,it wasnt even a challenge

wow, if you had a run with a lower reaction time it's easily a 13 second car, you definetly can't be fooling around with camry's hehe.  i was messing with a mk4 2.0 jetta today with my stock 1.6td,  what a punk ass car.

Yeah it does feel early, but here's what I do.  It helps me to look straight down your lane rather than directly at the light.  That way, the lights are a little blurry out of the corner of your eye.  When they light up, it is much easier (for me) to see three distinct variations of each light as they blink- dimming-on, full bright, and dimming-off.  When that third yellow hits full bright, drop the hammer.  I cut a .650, .500, and .510 the first three times I ever raced.  Some of the pro's there were not doing that well.  :P  Also, the way I see it, if you are racing for fun and you redlight, oh well, you still get a timeslip.  :P

Dammit I need a TDI engine.....

cool tip!!im gonna try that for sure!!! i know what you mean, looking (in)directly at the timing lights . as far as the blow up,,i think its from overspeed, basically ihave my boost controller closed off,how fast does that turbo spin when its pushing 35+ psi???its gotta be crankin!!!maybe also a lot of heat from fuel,,i gotta "relax" more,,all i could concentrate on as far as guages is the tach,so im not sure what the egt was getting to.i used this turbo onmy truck for about 2 years,, and maybe about a year on my real 1.6td,i think the car that rabbittree got it from had about 160 on it,and it never spun too smoothly, the kkk spins way better,it(garret) was probably coked up some,,now i have to figure out a bigger turbo,so this doesnt happen again
