Turbo upgrade
« on: May 09, 2016, 11:18:05 pm »
Wondering if anyone knows where to get a good turbo for my 1984 Quantum TD. I saw one at Hans auto parts for $359. Im sure its Chinese.. Has anyone had any experience with these turbos? I dont need the thing coming apart and throwing itself inside my engine. Thanks

It depends what turbo you want, your power goals and how much effort you want to put in to making it fit.

Easiest option is a stock turbo, which you can have rebuilt if you want to be 100% sure on its quality. Best option is probably a holset from alcaid but that would take more effort in making it fit.

don't buy the hans.

A stock turbo can be rebuilt for about the same price from xsboostturbochargers.com I have had many rebuilt there and he does great work.

I holset is a great turbo, you will have 1,000.00 in it at least if you do all the work yourself.

What do you want to spend and what are your goals, make a decision and do it.

Thanks for the input. Problem is my garrett has been stolen. Would you happen to have the part number of the holset turbo? Would I need a new manifold or is there an adapter plate? Its looking like whichever route I go, its going to be close to a grand. I just want the most boost for the buck..

IIRC the holset number I have is he221w, but it is no longer made. THey replaced that with a 200wg again, IIRC.

Just message alcaid. He will set you up with the proper turbo and probably give you some tips on installing it. He200wg is the one you want.
