Cylinder head removal with studs
« on: May 16, 2016, 08:07:38 pm »
The engine is a 1.6 and its in a MK2 Golf.
The cylinder head is held down with Raceware studs and was assembled out of the car.
30,000 miles later the gasket is leaking oil out of the front and I'm thinking about changing it.
Eyeballing the task, it looks like the turbo (K14) is going to catch the rain tray before the head is clear of the studs.
I would love to leave the manifolds in place if I could. I spent some time and effort matching the manifolds, gaskets and head.
Can anyone confirm wether the head will come off with turbo in place or not? Could I remove the front engine mount and tweak the engine?
Thanks

Can't you just remove the studs before taking the head off? Dunno about raceware but arp have a hex socket on the one end to make removal easier.

Dont think the Raceware studs have a socket head but I could try and double nut them
