1.6 GTD head
« on: January 30, 2016, 07:17:36 pm »
Hi all, I have acquired a spare cylinder head off a 1.6 GTD (SB engine) after getting all the gunk off it it appears not very good.
Question is, is this head savable, or scrap? Pics speak a thousand words, so..

The plastic cam cover is cooked, so it has got very hot at some point...

Crack around one of the injectors

some corrosion of the water jacket into the combustion chamber, so I am assuming head gasket failure caused the overheating

Also some cracking on the pre-combustion chambers

Pretty hefty cracks between valves too

Opinions? could the corrosion and crack around the injector be welded, and the head re skimmed or is it just not worth it?

hmm, I seem to be having issues with this forum, I cant edit or do anything other than make new posts and use quick reply.
I am using google chrome, and can see them, but if I try with safari i can't. Using a mac pc by the way.
If and when it gets sorted I will try re hosting on something other than dropbox, I cant use photobucket cos Im already up to my limit on there..

Yep, pictures work now.

I'd consider that head to be scrap. The individual problems can be fixed, and any one issue on an otherwise perfect head could be worth fixing but all together? Not worth it!
