Sorry to ask but noob tdi engine code q
« on: December 10, 2015, 08:50:05 pm »
I'm sorry to ask this but whenever I search I get confused on all the different codes, which is m or e tdi which is Idi etc.

Trying to did what swap to put in my mk1. I miss my idi but didn't want to do an idi swap because both had head gasket issues.

Found a mk3 jetta cheap, tdi. Is this the 1z/ alh? From what I read aaz was not in the United States.

Whatever is in this mk3.. Is it drive by cable or wire? What to look out for?

Reason being is I found a donor that would be a good price, figured it would require a whole ce2 swap and basically transfer very thing over. If it's 02a then I have my hydra clutch conversion, mount adapter, etc issues.

The Mk3 in the USA will be an AHU (not ALH). The AHU is the newest engine that shares the same basic block configuration as the original Rabbit engine. The ALH was in the Mk4 platform.

The AHU is a TDI and like all factory VW TDI engines it is drive by wire. However it can be converted to purely mechanical operation simply by swapping the injection pump with a mechanical direct injection pump.
