um i think you have a later model pump, with the idle speed boost,,like an a2,,,has the "detents" in the cold start cable for advance, and idle boost,,thats that linkage on yours,,,,,,itll work fine,,butits missing a linkage rod that extends from that upper piece circled, see the bent tab? thats where it hooks there,,down low,,,,,ican see the link in the pic,,its sorta laying on the valve cover,,,,,,that hooks up on the top bent piece i described,,,,,,that piece adjusts the idle speed,it had like a 6mm hex on top,,,,,,,, its broken, the link,,,iwould think it woulsd mess up the idle, inless you can rig it to stay or somethin,,someone will have an idea, and post,,,,,,,,,,
i've seen weird stuff like that before on pumps, could have something to do with an automatic diesel, but who knows.
Cold start switch, I think.
Maybe this picture will help!
yea thats what i thought,he is missing that link,,that pic helped,,,,,dunno about you,but ive swapped a later pumplike that onto a1 cars,,,they run better,,not sureif different advance curve,or what, but these on a1's run great,no prob keepin up on hiway speeds, and some of the steepest hills,it would hold speed,or accelerate a little still,,not slowdown,,,,,,,,,,,,soget that link fixed and run it!!!!!!!
i've experimented with mine a bit, my pump has that same peice, 1.9td, aaz. it is hooked to the cold start cable on mine, as well as a vacumme diaphram, i'll post pics later.
Anybody know of where I can purchase a replacement arm with the nescessary plastic arm and spring? I will start checking out junkyards, but I dont want to rob a possibly usefull pump for one part, making it unuseable for others...
adjusting hte upper peice, which is hooked to a vacumme valve, adjusts how high the idle is at hot and cold temps. left screw is cold idle setting, right screw is warm idle setting.
