I cooked the headgasket on my 1.6td and am thinking of throwing on my new AAZ head I've been saving for the engine I'm building. Is the AAZ head taller then the 1.6? Do I use the 1.6 timing belt and injection pump/lines/injectors? Anything special I'd need to consider? I know itll be harder starting in cold weather but I'd rather not spend anymore money on this 1.6 when I've got a new aaz head sitting around.
Lots of info on this site already about franken 1.6s, but the quick rundown of relevant differences are: it's only a direct bolt on for a hydraulic lifter block 1.6, and the intake ports are D-shaped instead of round. The valve cover is different as well, if you don't already have that.
The block is what's taller on the AAZ, not the head. You would use all your existing 1.6 fuel system stuff, and a 1.6 timing belt.
Great thanks! I think I should have everything I need other then gaskets and bolts.
Would it be better to run my giles AAZ pump with a k24 or would it not make much difference over the 1.6td pump?
Definitely run the Giles pump...
Just to clarify the aaz pump would still use the 1.6 timing belt, injector lines and injectors? Or would I have to bend the injector lines a bit? I havn't directly compared a 1.6 vs 1.9 pump but Its always looked like the 1.9 was a bit larger.
Also what would be the best place to start with timing the pump?
The AAZ pump will fit without issue provided it is the one-piece sprocket and you use that AAZ sprocket and late 1.6 metal lines (89+?) and injectors. You can also use the earlier metal lines but would need to replace the long AAZ delivery valves with the shorter early 1.6 delivery valves.
