Poor running after IP reseal!
« on: August 05, 2015, 11:57:35 am »
I replaced the high pressure head seal on my IP. There was a lot of corrosion, so I removed the head entirely to clean the joint before I put the new seal on (in a vice on my bench). I was careful about putting the plunger and springs back into place correctly.

Now it idles but with white smoke, even when warm. And when I push the accelerator it revs okay, but nearly stalls when I let it drop back to idle. If I put a load on it (driving) and then let it try to idle, it stalls.

Also, immediately after it stalls, it's oddly hard to start for about 30 seconds.

Oh, and it gets progressively worse. When I first start it, it seems okay, but after a few minutes seems to have trouble idling.

I set the IP back to the same position as marked on its bracket. I also verified the timing with a gauge. I've checked for leaks and don't see any. I do NOT have a clear fuel line, but I've checked and rechecked it.

I only have a day to work on this before I leave town, so I really appreciate any prompt advice!!

Welp . . .  the camplate was 180 out. I just had a nice little crash course in these pumps.

I took it off and back apart and it's running fine now.

Don't we have one of those embarrassment emoticons?
