What happens if you put a gasser filter on a 1.6 na?
« on: August 05, 2015, 11:11:22 am »
...just once. Does it blow up? I just have one leftover mahle oc47 that I want to start a rebuilt engine on and run for 20 minutes before I change it and the oil. Looking in it, there looks to be a restrictive valve an inch down. I dunno....

It'll PROBABLY be ok for that short of a use at this time of year.  Cold weather operation is a much bigger issue as 15w40 on a cold day can get up to 150 PSI at startup pretty easily.  But for a 20 minute run on a new build I don't see it being an issue whatsoever.

Seems like the gas o-ring is a little smaller....can't remember. It may spray oil past the top due to the difference (if there is one). The clean-up will give you something to do.

I think the gas oiling systems develop the identical pressures. I have never ruptured a gas filter tin.....yet. And, I have run a lot of 15-40 in gas rigs over the years.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

Yes, seems to me they all use the same oil pump. I am using the gasser filter flange (this is a cabriolet conversion) as it has the car pressure and oil temp sensors. I need to double check the seat before I make a mess.

From what I have read the gas oil filters have a lower burst and bypass rating.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the burst rating, odds are the starting oil pressure on one of these still isn't high enough to cause rupture, unless something is woefully defective, but with a lower bypass rating it may simply just send the oil right past the filter without filtration.

The only way it would ruin my engine would be if it grenades and takes me with it.  My head will be over it.  I have the right filter, just want to use this one up, if I can do it safely.
