TDI Stuff
« on: July 05, 2015, 07:12:03 pm »
Hey, guys. Hope all is well. I do see some of you on the FB page, but do miss this one.  Anyway, my 98 TDI Jetta runs great, but I would like a little more. While I am familiar with the Giles IP, Malone Tuning seems like it has good stuff as well. Im thinking I have the 90 HP engine, but one day on the road I couldn't even catch a Prius (yes, posted on FB...lol). I have mixed emotions as its my beater car, but seems Malone can be the way to go for a few more HP and possibly better mpg

As usual, your thoughts?

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

yeah, Malone is good and can get you where you need before doing an entire IP. Should be able to get you to at least 115hp from 90. The k03 is the limiter here.

That's why I love you guys. The knowledge here is untouchable. I tend to think 25 HP is a noticeable improvement. Guess next step would be injectors. It is my beater and I am now doing 6-800 miles a week, so I still need mpg.

Again, you guys are the best.  We DO need a GTG.. LOL

Injectors and a tune together would be your best bet, talk to whomever you get your tune from and get their recommendations, they really should be done at the same time. Yep the stock turbo is a little small but it will still let you have some significant gains.

If I can swing it, what injectors should I get?  My biggest thing is MPG, but a little power NEVER hurt...lol It has 180k, and its my DD, but i hate having 2000rpm at 57 mph. My 13 Passat hits 2000 rpm at 75 (granted its a 6mt). Besides having to add a better gear (if its worth it) would the Malone mods make up for it?  Sorry im not good with cars like you guys. Love em, but aint my thing. Thanks.

Going up a bit on the nozzles and getting a tune usually results in a bit of a fuel economy improvement.

Your first step is to choose a tuner, there are only a few places available for the AHU (it needs physical chips swapped). Then get a nozzle recommended by your tuner. The tune and the nozzles work together.
