I was surfing around for a rebuild kit and was just curious about this link to a internal voltage regulator:
http://parts.autopartsonlinecanada.com/parts/apocanada/wizard.jsp?year=1990&make=VW&model=JET-D-001&category=F&part=Voltage+Regulator

I'm just wondering about the picture of them.  They have a set of brushes on them.  Is this a seperate set from the main set or if I have a voltage regulator like this on my alternator, would these be the only brushes.  Because I'm seeing a "alternator brush assembly" kit that is sold as a seperate kit on that same webpage.  Is their both sets of brushes in one alternator or is the seperate "brush assembly kit" for alternators with an external voltage regulator?

Am I making any sense?

Their "alternator brush assembly" is stated as being for a motorola alternator, while the page you linked above look like they are brush replacement options for a bosch alternator.

Although you should check your alternator to be cerain, I'd guess that your german-made Jetta would come with a Bosch 65 amp alternator.  I've used a generic (non-OEM) brush replacement for Bosch alternator before, and had no problems with it.

OK so since mine is a Bosch with an internal voltage regulator, it only has the one set of brushes?  The one's on the Voltage regulator?

Thanks
