The pink stuff supersedes all the earlier formulations, but everything needs to be super clean to use it.

I used to use the green stuff but after seeing how clean everything was inside my TDI when I bought it compared to my 1.6 that had green stuff... Never going back.

I have a feeling some of the plastic housings and things last longer with pink too...

I stay away from the green stuff and from dexcool (orange) due to crystallization.  I like to use G05 (after a thorough flush) -- it's good stuff, interchangeable with G12, and generally more readily available locally (most Napas have it).  My $.02.
