I have a decent 91 ecodiesel jetta. This was my daily for a couple years and it was an excellent car. It has minimal rust, but has some around the windshield. Has only been in 1 vermont winter. Has about 260k on it. I sold it a couple months ago and the kid ran it low on oil and I bought it back from him because he was in a pinch.
It still starts right up and run/drives but does not fire on cylinder 4 and makes a decent knock. I don't think its rod knock, maybe cracked ring?
My plan was to just find another long block and get it going again since it was a great daily car for me. I drove it all over the country, returning 48mpg in the summer. Always started even in -10F.
I have done a ton of work to it recently including:
-new battery
-new bosch starter
-new sachs clutch
-new alternator belt (converted to single belt system with power steering belt no installed, power steering is all still there and working)
-nice jvc iphone and pandora compatible head unit
-MTX speakers
-new injection pump seals
Here are a couple pics from the fall.
This car is ready to daily drive with a new longblock or shortblock installed. If I dont generate any interest, that is what I will do.
