What engine would the 'correct pulley' be from? I found this pulley from vdamper http://www.vdamper.com/Serpentine-Water-Pump-Pulley--19-TDI-%E2%80%93-104mm_p_62.html
I note that is apparently smaller to spin the water pump a little faster on a diesel host.

That looks like a really good option. The stock serpentine water pump pulley was actually flat and ran the points of the belt on the flat steel surface which I always thought was really odd although it worked fine.

If that pulley has a smooth surface running against the ribs of the belt, it is certainly not as good as running with a ribbed pulley. The pulley from vdamper looks like a good investment.

I agree. Thanks for the link on it. I wasn't aware that someone was making/selling a ribbed version. I'll definitely go that route if I run one without A/C
