Hello folks, my name is Pedro and I'm from Portugal, at this time I've been 'building' a mk1 VW Golf 1.6D.
My ride came without the engine, just and only the shell. I have one complete SB 1.6 TD engine on my possession and I'm thinking about tune it up to MAX 180 whp which nowadays is possible to reach that kind of power levels.
I know that this kind of thread has been discussed many times but I'm looking for something more specific, and in my country the IDI engines haven't the same tuning 'treatment' as VP and PD TDI engines and for that reason I'm not the type of guy who is a 'sheep that follows the leader' regarding towards the TDI swap over the TD.
What do I need to get close to the whp I mentioned above?
Holset turbo from a Dodge Cummins? Ported & polished AAZ cylinder head? 1.9 TD injectors with MB E300 TD nozzles? Hybrid 1.6 TD pum with 1.9 TD and TDI parts overbored to 12mm shaft? Milled G60 camshaft? FMIC? Custom valve train? Custom flywheel?
Help me please, I don't want to run the TDI...
1,9 head ,MLS gasket,tuned IP 120cc,Holset He200 turbo= 180 whp
My old engine dynoed 174 whp with this setup.

Thanks for you reply, you reffer a MLS head gasket but which brand and thickness should I pick up?
BTW is that possible to use Schrick valvetrain or any racing aftermarket brand from other grasser models, like G60?
Thanks!
