EGT Probe and Gauge from different manufacturers?
« on: December 30, 2014, 07:52:55 am »
Hello all, my apologies if this has been covered before, i couldn't find anything searching on here or on the broader interweb.

I am looking to get an EGT setup for the mTDI swap I'm working on.  I've found many recommendations for the Micro-1000 EGT probes offered by Aircraft Spruce, specifically EP132 EGT Probe (1/8 NPT).  However, I'd prefer to use a VDO gauge rather than the Westach one people recommend in conjunction with that probe.  These are both "K type", but will the combination of a Micro-1000 probe and VDO EGT gauge be compatible and give accurate readings? Is the accuracy and responsiveness of the gauge primarily a function of the probe or the gauge?  If anyone has any experience with or insight into this specific setup, please let me know.  Thank you for your assistance.

If it is K type it will work with any K type. The gauge and probe both have to be accurate and the VDO will probably be fine.

Thanks for the reply.  Anybody running a VDO EGT gauge and able to vouch for its accuracy/responsiveness?  I believe that I've heard elsewhere that they aren't quite as responsive as the Westach versions, but they do match the other gauges...

I'm running the micro probe and the VDO Vision gauge. It works fine. Very fast.

Great, that's what I wanted to hear.  Sounds like that's what I'll go with then.  Thanks!
