Wrong transmission.
« on: December 01, 2014, 08:31:15 pm »
I asked the junkyard for a 97 jetta 1.9 turbo diesel transmission. They sent one with a hydraulic clutch. The transmission in the car is a mechanical clutch?? Transmission in the car is DFP 25046. The new Transmission has no number except the number on the slave cylinder 357 72 1261. My friends drove the car 20 hrs to my house from northern canada. Im just trying to help them and we are stuck.
Turns out both Transmissions are diesel. Just not the same clutch. What do we have to do to get the clutch that works?

Not sure what you have but could you swap the pieces from the mech clutch to the new trans?

The '97 was an odd year, there was both an AAZ with an 020 (cable clutch) and an AHU with an 02A (hydraulic clutch) depending what market you were in.

If you get a hold of the shifter parts for the transmission you have, it is a much better and stronger trans than the 020. It's also quite easy to do the swap in the Mk3 platform. The hole for the clutch master cylinder is already there in the firewall, the brake fluid reservoir already has the nipple for the tube to supply the master, the clutch pedal itself will work too as they used the same parts for both vehicles.
