Oil pressure problems
« on: December 04, 2014, 11:11:27 pm »
Hey guys, I have a mk2 golf with a 1.6td. Recently I've been having issues with the oil buzzer. After driving on the highway for 10+ minutes I get the buzzer coming on as it revs down. It only goes off between 2200 and 2500. I've read all about the oil pressure system so I get how it works and I've replaced the sensor so I'm sure it's actually losing pressure after highway driving. Could it be my oil overheating?

You need to get a gauge on it of some sort to really know for sure what's going on.  The factory warning system just says "Diagnostics needed", it can't really tell you what condition things are in.  You could have a bad switch, a bad cluster, a bad W terminal signal or an actual oil pressure problem.

What oil filter do you hav? I got the buzzer on cheap oil filters now I only use Mann filters. Fixed the problem.

i've heard of the filters being the problem a few times.  my old rabbit used to do this, so i checked it with a mechanical gauge and it was fine, so i just unplugged the relay that buzzed.

I have a Mann filter. It started happening after I switched to synthetic oil so I don't know if that's a factor. What would be the easiest/cheapest option for an oil pressure guage.

I also switched to synthetic for the winter and haven't noticed a big difference in pressure. I'm about 40-60 cruising and 20 at idle. I got an electric guage mounted in my head.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue when the engine goes near operating temperature. The oil light goes on and it starts buzzing.

When I checked my oil level, though, it was a bit too high. Is it possible that the oil thermostat is not letting it through to the radiator?
