So the 1.6td from my 92' ECOdiesel is already under the knife and I plan on this being the first diesel that ive ever built that will be mainly for performance. Im under the impression it can be dressed as a TDI with the pump and injectors and electronics from a TDI? Is this correct and would it be a step in the right direction? The bottom end is getting balanced and the head is getting ported, TT springs and a cam. Is there a better intake manifold from a later model? How about an exhaust manifold and turbo from a later model?
I already have a 2.5" ss TT exhaust system but haven't wanted to pull the trigger on a down pipe because I'm undecided on a manifold and turbo setup. I also plan on running a small intercooler setup.
I appreciate any and all advice/feedback.
Nope, it will be always be an IDI without tons of money and custom parts. You can bolt on an aaz head that has bigger valves than 1.6 head and it is a big upgrade. Also, send your pump out to Giles or Dieselmakken and get a bigger pump to do work. No real better intake or exhaust manifolds out there off other models or the shelf, you would have to make your own. Turbos are hard to recommend as everyone wants something different, but from all I have seen the Holset and Mitsubishi turbos are built way better than the rest. VNT are good from newer vw, but need a control system.
I wasn't aware that TT made a diesel cam?
Just the springs, thank you!
