closest cable i can find is bramgate dealer in brampton, about 50km away.... too far to bus.

very gracious offer kevin but you're too far... can't ask you to do that! i'm gonna hop on a bus i think... i found a cable at precision, they aren't too far away.
gotta love the vw community, always willing to help each other out!

Are clutch cables really that hard to get there? I'm a little surprised. There are numerous shops around here within 20 miles that would have that in stock.

There are lots of places within 20 miles of where Black Tie is to get that part, but the problem is getting there. You have to live in/around southern Ontario to understand that traffic congestion is absolutly awful, and to travel 20 miles (without a car, like B.T), just fugedaboutit.....Rush hour is from 5 A.M. to just after the bars close.....

haha he's got it!
all the dealers around don't stock mkI stuff... don't know if that's because most people up here have money for a 'better car' or just that they are old now... i would think it would be the same clutch cable all the way up to 1993 cabrio :?:
..and i was told that canadian tire / partsource (our two main parts chains, common parts supply) has the part as discontinued in their system.
closest one i could find IN STOCK was 50km away, with about 5 or 10 shops that could have had it for me at 8am this morning... but i wanted to fix it after work yesterday.
which i did, thanks to perjad at precision. he's about 15km down the 407 (express toll highway, less traffic) and i was able to get a lift. he's a small tuner shop and he stocks more mkI stuff than the dealer or cdn tire... great dedication to the old dubs!
seems stupid such a hassle for a clutch cable, i know... especially when you have two in your parts storage

I understand about the traffic. It is absolutely terrible around Seattle. I try and pick my driving schedule carefully as there is a window from about noon to 1:30 when traffic isn't stopped on 405. After 6:30 or so it also clears up but during the day it's really bad. It is stop and go for many miles and it can take hours depending on where you're going.
