AAZ pump question
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:34:14 pm »
So I recently went out on a limb and purchased/imported an AAZ from Canada. It was sort of an impulse buy and I may or may not be having buyers remorse :-\ . Anyway, since it is going in an MK1, I started removing some of the sensors that are connected to the top of the LDA. I didn't realize these bolts also held the cover of the LDA on. The cover popped off and leaked out some black liquid which I speculate is diesel. My first question is it that normal for black diesel to come out when removed? Second, did I muck anything up by pulling that cover off?

I also have another (stupid) question. The service interval on timing belts on these motors is something close to 60k miles.
This motor was verified with ~90k or the equivalent in kilometers. Although I did not get a service history, (this is where the stupid part comes in) there is still manufacturing stamps/writing on the belt itself which leads me to believe its relatively fresh. Should I change it anyway? I feel like I'm answering my own question here but i just wanna throw it out there.

Im sorry if this is already covered somewhere I searched but maybe my keywords were wrong.
TIA

Your safe don't worry, the black stuff is actually motor oil, totally normal. It get pushed through the pcv system, then through the turbo, through the intake manifold and through the small rubber hose that connects the intake manifold to the cover you took off. Boost pressure from the manifold pushes down the rubber diaphram which moves the ramp on the pin and injects more fuel as the boost increases. Just wipe off the oil from the cover and pump so a good seal can be made, otherwise you may have a boost leak. If you remove the pin thats attached to the rubber diaphram pay attention to the "ramp" thats cut in the pin, it should be on the very left or pointing towards the pulley side of the pump.

As for the belt, i would change it. If you have the smallest doubt in the back of your mind change it :)

If you need anything else just ask :)

Motor oil was my second guess, but it was so runny/thin that I thought it couldn't be.
Thanks for the info.
