sat I was out in my mk2 na, all was well till the clutch pedal went to the floor. I recently had the trans out so I assumed maybe the cable was fetched up and seated. I adjusted the cable to the max with no luck and determined the selector rod lever was broken. I got a complete cover with all parts and went to removing the cover from the car. it didn't go well. the pushrod came out with the cover and I didn't know any better. now I can't get it back in. is there any way to get things lined up? I'm really hoping someone can save me from tearing this thing out and apart. I know I sure feel like an idiot right now....
The one that lines up the shift forks??
Bend over if it does not go right back in.... Gotta be able to lock it in 2 gears to get 5th gear xzn loose if its torqued properly... Rod out prenevts that....
All ya had to do was jack up tranny side of car, remove green cap, to do that job... No oil loss, 30 min of time...
I think he is talking about the green cap....but, who the 'ell knows?
once that rod comes out the shift forks will all fall into the transmission and you need to tear it down to get them back together.
Take a looks at this video for what you should be prepared for

Man, I could not handle trying to watch Billyjoebob and his beer slurping pallies in that video!
You can get shift forks to line up, but, you need the trans out of the car (most helpful).
Just last month, I was working on an FN (but, did NOT have the 5th gear and it's shift mechanism attached (and, I think that helped tremendously)). I accidentally allowed the rod to back out and lost my fork placement. After about 1.5 hours of testing the outer limits of my blood pressure medication, I was able to get everything back in place. However, I was able to physically rotate the body of the transmission and use gravity to help.
How this guy got from a sinking pushrod (probably a hole in his clutch release disc or bent mechanism) to THIS is unreal. He really needs to perfect his Rube Goldberg techniques and enter some contests. Or, that stuff in his pipe is some pretty good sheeot!
that's kind of what I was hoping. it will have to wait a couple of days though, I'm in nova scotia and we have the leftovers from a hurricane on its way. (makes it hard to work in the driveway.
Ive seen that finger break... More often then pushed thru rod... Pushed thru rod tend to be from bad grounds... Uses pushrod to complete ground when cranking... He just went about it wrong... Clutch arm comes up more then verticle is 2 choices... Broken finger.. Pushed thru rod...... Cap by its self under $10.... Seal kit with cap $80+... Most do not relize buy just cap... His goal i bet was used end cone as cheaper if you do not know u can buy just cap

close...I had a complete cone and if the rod hadn't come out, it would have been easier to just swap it out.
