I am assembling a CY motor that has been honed and hot tanked with stock pistons and new goetze rings. I cannot get the oil ring compressed enough to slide the piston into the cylinder. The ring itself is sized fine, but with the coil spring underneath it on the piston I can't get compressed. Is there a special German adjective I need to know because I've used all the English ones without being successful.. My ring compressor isn't a top quality unit, but it can compress the top 2 rings without any problems.
Thanks,
Rod
Have you fitted the rings into the bore and measured the end gap? What was it?
Have you cleaned ALL of the carbon out of the ring grooves?
have you checked to be sure that the rings will go deep enough into the ring groove to be below the piston outside diameter?
Did you knock the ridge out before you honed the block?
Try fitting the oil ring to the spot above where the rings ride and see what the end gap is there.
If all of the above are all right you may need to tap on the area where the rings are on the OD of the ring compressor with a hammer handle as you tighten the ring compressor.
