2.5 tdi 5 cyl mecanical
« on: August 11, 2004, 07:59:57 am »
i have two project in the same time time.... :?
the first is my passat, because the engine is dead and i need it!

the other is my new toy! :D  :D  an eurovan 2.4d who need a 2.5tdi :D
on the 2.5tdi engine the pump turn on left side, and is a 11mm plunger.
i want to fit on it a turbo from an audi v6 tdi 180 hp. ( vnt ???? )
a mechanical pump, may be i have to make my own pump....
then a set of 0.216 or more to hit the 180 or may be 200 hp?but not need hp, i need torque.....
then if i found it the gearbox of the 150 hp eurovan for best speed, now i have the 102 hp one....

last week end i work on it , and i know now that i have more probleme than a 4cyl!!

1st : the pumpe can't turn on the braket , and we can't tune a static timming! so i could swap the braket by the 2.4d one.
2nd : the pouley can't adjust the timming too!
3rd : the pouley have a damper  for  low vibration and better timming .

welcome to  answer or question .....

j'ai d'autre projet plus fun , toujours vw, mais plutot air cooled.(beach buggy)

hello!

i just open the peugeott pump and compare the body with the 5 cyl one!

there is only one ( and important one) thing change on body when  it turn on left or right side.
it's on the advance piston, the escape hole of gazol is on the wrong side for me in the peugeot pump, but it's not a probleme, usualy this escape hole return to the intake gazol of the pump.
i think i have to close the hold hole , and make a way on the other side.

photo will come soon!

sorry , soon in english because now the bed call me!   zzzzzzzzz........

some picture from my work on it...

that's why i need to found a new pump body:

i need a 20mm drive shaft , because the puley are not the same! the tdi one have a damper, and with a 11mm pluger i think it will be sure to fit it on the mecanical pump.

so this is the peugeot td pump body with the 20mm drive shaft:

the lda and all the accelerator part is from a land rover pump.

i need to change the way of advance timing piston:

 tdi (upside) and idi.

this hole is for low presure gazol , and gazol go back to inlet gazol screw.

it must be on this side!

i need to make a little hole and with a small hose make it back to the inlet gazol screw.

just for fun....   1mm vs 8mm

came plate...
idi and tdi...

braket off idi is the biggest with the advance cable...

"so this is the peugeot td pump body with the 20mm drive shaft"

Aloha Caddy,

I'm trying to get educated on building myself one of these hybred mech. pumps for a 2001 A4/TDI engine.   My interest is to repower my '87 Suzuki Samurai w/ the TDI mated to a Toyota truck trans & t-case.  I already have the engine/tranny adapter.  The problem is, my engine didn't come w/ the wiring harness, ECU, etc.  My engine came from a 2001 automatic beetle, so it has the bigger 11mm pump on it, which is good!  My original plans was to keep it electronic & source all the parts(used/new) from the '98 & '99 New Beetle.
Those two years(USA) didn't have the IMMOB. & from what I understand the instrument cluster wasn't needed to make it run properly.

But have now desided to go the mechanical pump route since I see quite a few post of building these hybrid pumps.

My question is,  can the larger 20mm drive shaft from the TDI pump fit in a TD that originally had a 17mm one?  Is it just a matter of changing out the bearing/bushings? Also, what about the bigger plungers, say the 11mm one into one that has a 8mm.

  I have two pumps available, any of these worth looking at;

(1) from a 2.1L TD 4cyl. winnebagos. From what I understand, it's the same pump used on the peugeots(VE style pump) also.  I'm still waiting to hear from the seller to get the Bosch# to see what size pump it has.  I believe they had 8mm, so if that could be changed out to the 11mm that woild be good!
The other pump is also a VE pump. However, it's from a cummins 6cyl., Bosch#0-460-426-184.  The six digit says that this pump has a 12mm plunger.  Just wondering if the head could be changed to the vw 4 head.  If it could, I think this pump would be able to give the highest performance for a TDI.  I'll try to post a picture of it.

Please, any comments, suggestion will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks & aloha!    ....renny

Well, not sure how to post the photos. :( ( It's stored on my computer.)  I could e-mail it to you if you'de like!

Found a thread on the TDIclub forum.  There is a member there, "Simon"/user name: "tdi rs"  that builds these high performance hybrid pumps w/12mm plungers, etc.  out of his shop located in England(www.centralvwaudi.com)  Some are saying he is running a mechaincal TDI w/ the same pump & some other mods to get over 200 hp!   If this is true, WOW!

The only thing stopping me from buying one right now, is the price :!:  :!:  :!:     He sells them for 500.English lbs. each, that's like $962.USD-yikes!   Better try & build one myself first  :?  & if that doesn't work out, then perhaps I can put in for overtime selling coconuts to buy one!
