First Time Checking Pump Timing..Questions??
« on: May 27, 2014, 09:38:14 pm »
I checked the injection pump timing for the first time today. I just wanted to get used to the procedure and using the two-turn dial indicator; 0.50mm per rotation. It was right on the money at 0.9mm. I moved the crank and did it again for practice. So, I didn't have to change the pump position.
I seems reasonable that the metal fuel lines should be loosened and re-tightened at some point. Yes? Bentley doesn't mention it.

Also, I fitted the pump locking pin into its position. I bought it on Ebay. It doesn't fit as snug as I thought it would.
Should it be a pretty snug fit? It's 0.594" dia.; my 11 mm socket is .611".....Youtube guy says 0.615...I've seen some
have to tap it in with a hammer !!

Does not matter one bit. That only locks the pulley in place for installing the belt, really. It would need to be small enough (loose) so that the belt could slip a full tooth for it to matter any at all..

A hammer? What a pain in the ass.

^^ When moving the pump yes. If you only checked timing without rotating the pump, it is unnecessary.

my pin and cam lock are blue point, much better than most tools; use a plastic hammer if you absolutely have to. check vince's link for timing and using dial gauge.
