Need lighting.

I do a lot more driving at night down unlighted roads now and will be for the next year. So I need more lighting. I already have HID's in E-Code round housings. I am thinking of getting a rally grill that has the 4 round lights. But I am not sure how much more light will be on the road with them. I am also thinking of doing an LED bar which I know throws crazy amounts of light, about 4,500 lumens. So comes the question of mounting. I was thinking of mounting underneath the bumper or on the roof. But what I need to know is if anyone knows about a decent light bar for a MK2 for the roof. Maybe one of those rally spec things.

Lots of lumins in bad ways does nothing...

Your in nc?? Check laws on extra lights... This past fall 13 i heard nc did a sweet increase in taxes there... Pick up trucks with more then 2 aditional lights get taxed for more then 2... Via ticket!! I ran fogs and driving lights, along with e codes in high school and got harrassed with all them vs just 2 25 years ago... But nc passed a law...

What kinda e code with hid?? I would move up to de style e code,  ff reflector high beam, and set of ff reflector fogs...

Now hella in 86ish made a odd grill set up to fit early westy core supports that does de lows and ff highs... By 90 the ralley golf came with their own version... Ralley lights in pa sells the headlight pods... No grill or support though... Those were 1k to buy 20 year ago... Since they all 1 piece light, you would maximixe the lows, highs... Then nice set of fogs wired to be both a low beam and stay on in high beam, work great to fill gap in high, you will maximize all light, and screw nc laws...

CRSMP5: The light coming from the LED bars is all good. I am not using them for regular driving only on unlit roads with no traffic.
The light law is not a big deal. They only talk about 2 spot lights. And only distance for fog lights. I will be projecting light well beyond what they are talking about but it will be on a level plain which is permissible.
I have the round E-Codes that have the crosshairs in them.
By FF do you mean free form?
DE = projector?
If so I have looked into all of that. And the FF fogs are a waste of money because for the same price you can get the light bar which puts out way more light. And the projectors are nice especially if you have high beam capability. I only have low beams.
The issue is that halogen lighting is crap. And no matter how you cut it HID's are expensive. LED's are the best of both, cheap and bright. Yes the tech is newer but it has evolved very fast.

Ff is free form..... De is projector.... Refers to how the reflectors work...

Sadly... Led you speak of would suck arss in fog.... See no matter how bright you make it, unless the light is where you want it its kinda usless... More light in fog is not!! What you seek... A 55w bulb with good reflector, lense set up wins vs putting say high beam on... When ff came to life, i moved onto them and wow, impressive differance in just reflector change... Same every thing except reflector... Then i got into the de on my b3... Again... 55w bulb in that vs 100w/80 h4 e code was wow... Adding hid wow to a de...

The trick is getting light where you need it... Then adding brightness to it...

Not fog though... The idea is enough light low enough to be under the fog, not illuminating the fog... So ff reflector, good quality bulb...

Ive been in foggy situations where parking lights and fogs were much more safe then even low beams on... Hid lows in bad fog suck...

CRSMP5: Ya, those are what I said. FF = Free Form and DE = Projector.
I could care less about in fog. Very few times will I actually be in fog during the times I am driving. If it was in the A.M. then I would change direction and go with a yellow LED bar mounted low. That would undercut the fog and provide the best vision.
The LED bars in case you never looked at them are very aim-able. That is why there is a spot beam in the middle and fogs on the side.
Again I am not concerned about fog. If I run into a very foggy situation it will be patchy and I will slow down. Not a big deal.

In the sample picture this doesn't really even go 8 car lengths. It is around 10 car widths and the beam isn't lighting the road at the end of the lot. Have fun with it, but don't think you will be getting what you want.

Also, you have made several threads asking what to do, but when you get 2 or 3 answers you come back with a solution of your own. Not all bad, but the bad part is you seem to know what you want to do already and just toss aside the help you asked for. That is not the best way to work around here if you want to get help in the long term, just an FYI

The picture is an example picture. Not necessarily the item I will purchase. All the stuff CRSMP5 posted is irrelevant. I am only asking about that 1 thing and gave a story with it.

No idea.  I don't have one, so I'd spend 10 minutes putting some tabs on a tube and call it good.
