Hey folks,
So I'm up and running with my Rover 300 TDI pump on my AHU. However I'm noticing the idle seems to be a bit tricky compared to my old 1.6 pump. Of course I don't have the idle bump like I had on my old pump, which I did use quite regularly.
On cold startup the car shakes like CRAZY until I've driven a few blocks (and this is at 10C, I can't wait for next winter). According to my factory tach I'm idling around 900 RPM when cold. Once things have warmed up I'm at about 1100 RPM which is higher than I'd like, but if I drop it any further I think I'm going to shake the car apart on cold starts.
Ideas?
I do have brand new engine mounts in and I know those can take a bit to settle down...

Today i need to play with the idle setting on the one im fine tuning cause, in the am, its perfect, after 10 min ride it starts to "run away" as its too high... Gotta use load to get flyweights to retract.... In the govener... At 118 on pump timing this popped up... But from 130 no glow plugs required, much happier running... That when 25f out in am...
The night i toasted the wrx, i lifted the head.. Been playing with someone elses m pump, so its bolt and go for them
But it all fixed waiting on next wrx to think i care...
Just play with setting and see... Your ic pipes and exhaust give things to vibrate too.....

It is definitely better with the exhaust on the car. I twiddled with the idle speed and fiddled with that 'contraption' lever a tad. Read on a Rover forum that its job is to prevent a hanging idle, but that was just one statement by one guy.
Right now my idle is solidly around 1050-1100 RPM, seems happy there. I really do miss the idle governor from my 1.6 pump though, it was definitely a little better at maintaining idle speed when letting out the clutch, when the rad fan kicks in and loads the alternator, etc.

well mine is less then that now.. no issues.. but way warmer..
i would not in anyway screw with that linkage.. till i understand what it does better, its adj are so small.. its bad idea.. adj that small on rc cars have drastic effects.. and its part of the timming adv ststem..
but signed new lease lastnight.. now to move all my crap to new home many miles away..
figure oct.. till moved in.. then i can start my bench project so i can do such things on the bench.. knowing effects..
winter project to start serious pump rebilds with factual info
but new place.. many many miles away.. switched utilities into my name today too... 1st one in 7 years...

Yeah all I have played with is the rod itself, not the pivot stops. The stops have Bosch "no touchy touchy" paint on them but the rod doesn't, suggesting it is expected to be adjusted. Much like how the idle screw comes without paint.

but those set screws in spring stops do... much like nitro rc buggies the brakes/throttle linkage..
