Has anyone make a TDI NA
« on: April 13, 2014, 01:08:23 pm »
Physical making it a NA is easy ( PD130/150 driverside intake manifold, 8V exhaust on a new downpipe, cap off the oil lines at the source, Remove all the VNT stuff )

But still keeping the ECU and such? deleting the MAP sensor and other turbo related ECU stuff.

Im on turbo #6... last one almost ate up my rebuilt engine. I like diesels, but getting tired of the electrical issues and VNT.

I have to ask: 6 turbos in how many miles? Old junk or new ones? Are you beating the car to death or is this a DD?

Enquiring minds want to know.....

Some were junk, some were new CHRA ( last 2 been CHRA ) new cartages that bearings failed within a day or two. Properly adjusted wastegate, everything aligned, new oil changes before, cleaned out newer lines. Mostley oil seals were going on the unknown ones. Im not really beating on it, it is my daily. I do travel up and down alot of hills ( big hills, turbo boggers ) for 200+ KM a day. I dont hold it up hills, or burn it out.

Well reason for the engine replacement was bearing failure.

Then since I got the car, the 1749V that was on it started to leak oil from the housing so I replaced it with a unknown condition VNT15. That started to blow oil, so I ordered a new cartage for the 1749V ( that went ) so I rebuilt the VNT15 I had to the best I could, that lasted a few months till started to blow oil. Figured Id get a newer housing for the 1749V and the CHRA was under warranty. slapped that back together and well that that blew the nozzle ring out ( guess the bolt holes were stripped ) and stopped the turbo dead. Really been mostley 2 turbos Ive been blowing up.

they were available this way in europe, and called an sdi.

you'd still want the map sensor anyway tho since it reads absolute pressure

Malone sells a tune to delete the turbo but maintain all the other electronics.

Sounds like... Unless you overdo it on the EGTs the wastegate turbos tend to last as long as the original bore. They are a pretty simple piece of engineering though they spin at high speeds. Good quality balanced parts, good oil and reasonable temperatures is all they ask.

The VNT turbos need a bit more care and feeding but as long as they are cared for they usually last pretty well.

Yeah the 2 GT1749V were prolly chinese. Hence blew fast. The VNT15 that was on it, I couldnt split the housing to change out 1 oil seal. ETG were down min, I dont hold or pin it.

Theyre OEM dealership oil feed and return lines ( cost me a mint for what they are )The 1749V's I guess were cheap chinese, pawned off quality ones. since the VNT15 I rebuilt lasted awhile, but I knew the oil seal was going on the exhaust side.

I got a VNT15 from a BEW sitting on the bench waiting for a new rebuild kit and actuator.

I was going to suggest emailing Malone, he worked on an ALH without a turbo iirc a couple years ago.
