Car runs great but water temp light flashes....
« on: April 09, 2014, 04:36:20 pm »
argh..

Car runs amazing now, thanks to all that helped with my recent issues....93, aaz jetta

I have great gas milage, lots of power, rock solid idle, and it starts with only a half turn of the key....even if not plugged in....

but, the stupid coolant temp light wont stop flashing at me....4/5 times i start the car it will flash endlessly...(once in a while, itll not come on, no matter how long the drive)

Temps are fine..it rarely goes above 1/3 on the gauge if ever....lots of power, no white smoke..recently retimed to factory specs

Ive replaced the overflow "ball" twice...no difference....level inside the ball is within range, cleaned the contacts on the plug into the ball etc...

Anything else i can look at....all i want to do is make it stop...:)

Cheers

Paul

I would start with that part first. If that isn't it I would guess wiring or something is not hooked into the correct place.

It says that's for an 86.... On mine (93) that part I believe is integrated into the overflow ball / tank....

I'm thinking about replacing the plug part ... But I'm worried after replacement... If the light goes off, is it fixed..... Or just broken differently :)

I think it is somewhere there or you put some other wires in the wrong spot.

My 86 would flash erratically. It was a hairline fracture in the flexible PCB.

I might try shorting the plug terminals in the rez circuit and see if it changes. If not, maybe the issue is elsewhere.

If you can measure the voltage accross the plug while it's plugged in, it will tell alot.
Or if you find voltage on the ground wire when it's plugged in.
I suspect a bad connection from the plug to ground, causing the voltage to go high and trigger the op amp.
