FS 1.6TD head
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:34:02 pm »
I have a 1.6TD head that was recently "rebuilt". It's a long story but it gives some important history on the head.

10 years ago or so I bought 2 TD engines from a shop. The one of interest had a "rebuilt" head. I ended up trading the engines to a friend and just recently bought them back. He hasn't touched them. So I removed the "rebuilt" head and found that 2 of the valves were bent. One quite badly. I'm thinking they messed up the timing when they put the head back on. I had a spare head kicking around that was no good so I pulled the valves out of it and stuck them in the "rebuilt" head. I lapped them in and checked the valve guide wear. The wear is at maximum for most of the exhaust guides but the intake ones are still fine. One of the exhaust guides is probably over. I didn't have the most accurate measuring system in place. The head seems to be flat. My thinnest feeler gauge is 0.002" and I couldn't get it to go in anywhere on the head. I put new valve stem seals in the head and will include a new camshaft seal as well. I changed the cam out because the one that was in the head had one small spot of rust on it (1/8" round) that was pitted. If you prefer the original cam I can include it instead, your choice. The head appears to have suffered from a blown timing belt in it's past, and also an uneducated mechanic. Two of the lifter bores are marked up at the top (see pictures). However, the lifters still move freely. Also, injector boss #3 has been welded up. It looks like they did a very good job on it.

All that to say, this head should run fine for quite a few more miles. $175+shipping

Thanks for looking.
