Seems like it runs somewhere next to the alternator. But I'm not really sure what it does or where it goes. Its on an 84 rabbit. . . I also have a 90 amp alt on there. So the alt might not have the connection. Is it just an extra ground?
And on the 90 amp alt there is a plug that looks suspiciously similar.

But they don't fit together. Do I need to splice them together? What is it for? My cars been running for months without it lol.

It's probably for that obnoxious upshift indicator on your instrument cluster. Goes to the "W" terminal on the stock alternator.
mk1 chasis with 90 amp alternator how? Is that an mk1 bracket?
I can't tell what color the wire is to look it up? Is it black with a white stripe?
That plug on the alt looks a lot like a do-it-yourself W terminal to me. They never hung out on a wire from the factory. Looks like someone modified the alternator at some point.
Alternator is my doing... Came from the store like that. 90 amp swap is well documented on the vortex and maybe even here.. I needed a new alt so I made up a quick bracket and installed the 90!
Wire is indeed a black with white stripe. Any tests I can do on the alt or otherwise to confirm w terminal output? And I wonder if having the upshift light would be cool? Haha. I actually removed the two sensors on the IP (switch like things... Were broken anyway.) Just the other day out of frustration. I assume those are upshift light things as well? I'm trying to clean up this engine bay to make it look semi decent. Actually the upshift light spot on the dash would make a mighty sweet place to mount my auber egt gauge... Hmmm...
Any other ideas what this could be ? Probably will just dead end it.
