WTB -- pressurized coolant resevoir
« on: March 17, 2006, 12:21:02 am »
I think I need a new one -- where to get one (without going to the dealer)?  Whenever I go up a hill, it just starts spewing coolant out and leaves a trail, instead of pressurizing like it should when it gets hot.  Then of course, it starts overheating because it's missing coolant.  I looked on line and found a few caps for sale, but none of the little round tanks.  Would a junkyard one be a possibility?  I never trust used radiators, but maybe?

Most import shops should be able to get you one new, but they tend to be poor quality. They like to bulge out. If you can find a nice looking one in a wrecking yard that's up to you. The part number is 171 121 407 F and it's only $11.90 from 1stvwparts.com (1stvwparts is Auburn Volkswagen (dealership) in Auburn, WA).

Hey, $12 isn't too bad, even if I have to pay shipping on it too.  I'll probably give them a try.  Thanks

EDIT:  I just looked at the website, it it looks like the same guys who do 1stsubaruparts.com, which alot of people on my subaru forums recommend.  If their VW selection is as good as the subaru selection, they should be good.
