I think the 1X  and 1Y intake manifolds are pretty similar, though the 1X has only one port for a pcv input that actually matches up with a stock 1.6 PCV puck and hose.   IIRC, the 1Y has a passageway cast into the manifold and some other flanges, etc.

I know for a fact that the 1X intake manifold when used in a transverse way on a caddy, puts the aircleaner connection on the passenger side, so its nice for an aftermarket cone filter after relocating the fuel filter forward on the fender.

Cost was $65-75 and he wasn't too keen on removing from one of his 1.9 n/a engines tho...

i think 500-1500 is fair, and i agree, if u can start it and run it(from cold) it definitely adds value imo.  i was recently looking for a 1.6, and theres alot of them out there but its really hard to tell what you're getting, just for starters alot of people don't even know how to work on them.  One guy told me he had a rebuilt 1.6(still in car) that he wanted to sell, but when i showed up to look at it, the engine was already warmed up(not that i blame him we met in a public place) but he also had no receipts for any of the work.  If i can't see what was done i don't care if it was rebuilt, im only going to judge it on blowby, how it starts, and how it drives at that point.  that particular guy told me hed call me when he had the receipts but i never heard back haha.

he also didn't want to drive it because supposedly the alternator wasn't working so he was going to call me when that was fixed... suspicious imo, so when he didn't call me back i didn't worry about it.

Isn't the NA 1.9 IDI called a 1y block?
How much for the intake?,... if it's the one I'm thinking.

Some of them are EGR, mine is but it was cheap and the only one I could lay hands on at the time.
None of the ebay guys in europe ever respond even though they list worldwide shipping.
I wouldn't pay more than $75 for one.  I think I tried quality german and they were out
back when I was looking.

Also worth noting, the EGR version was FILTHY, like the TDI's get with EGR.  Bare that in mind on cost, it
took hours to clean the damn thing.
Many things we do naturally become difficult only when we try to make them intellectual subjects. It is possible to know so much about a subject that you become ignorant.

Yes, I was being serious about finding out all I can about Quality's offerings.

In my part of the world, all this VW diesel stuff has long since gone to the crusher. I may need to score something from the man at Quality (forgot his first name) at some future point. I have spoken with him on the tele a couple of times. He seems personable and somewhat guarded as I would suspect. I would have purchased an engine or two from him in the past if I could physically pick it up at this facility.

Does anybody have any experience with Quality's rebuilt heads? I also see that he readily has the KS pistons as well.

You can import stuff yourself from a guy named "frans" on tdi club probably a lot cheaper than that guy at quality. He mostly does swap kits for b5s and audis but im sure he can get anything. FWIW though in europe most cars have low miles because a long commute in germany is a couple miles.. Think about driving from say atlanta to la in europe that equal to driving from paris to israel or something. Frans does complete b5 swaps for like 2500 bucks shipped.
