My First TDI: 1998 Jetta.
« on: December 01, 2013, 12:02:51 am »
Hey all,

Here's my new daily driver that I bought after getting out of air-cooleds.

She needs some work before she'll be really good:

1. Shocks/struts all around; bouncy castle on ice right now!
2. Rear axle beam bushings, and maybe front control arm bushings also; see previous number's comment.
3. Ignition switch w/ deletion of remote start button a previous owner installed when the ignition switch went bad.
4. Airbag lamp is on with low voltage faults (may be related to 3).
5. Replace glow plug harness.
6. Minor bumps in the sheet metal and pinch welds.

My promise to myself is to leave it alone and use it as everyday stock transport for the first year of ownership.  After that, it's open season on how this thing looks, drives, and accelerates.  Either way, it's bye-bye to freezing my extremities, dumping $38 in the tank every 5 days, and being blown about by the wind.  At least this piece of the past is more futuristic than my last delve into niche European vehicle ownership.

Looks very nice. It can still be tuned and return excellent fuel mileage.

I still have 2 IDI Diesels along with my 96 GTI w/ TDI swap.
