MK2 5 bolt swap
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:17:39 pm »
Ok, say we have a MK2 that needs converted to 5 bolt. The donor is a B4. What mk3 parts are needed and can they be from a 4 bolt? Subframe, rear beam, sway bar? I know the control arms need to be mk3 VR.

oohhhaaa... your making b4 into 5x100?

rear rotors simple... done..

fronts... you need axles, arms, baljoints, steering rack with tierods.. longer vr6 arms = longer tie rods too.. and well they used a few different acks to tie rods.. so you may have to swap it vs tierods..

The B4 is a 5 bolt already. The MK2 needs to become a 5 bolt.

Is the plus suspension (5 bolt) really a great improvement over the 4 bolt stuff or is this done just for different rim selection?

im using mk3 on mk2...

rim selection id say... rear disks... same...

fronts go to 11" like g60 rpoddo.. but again.. those 4x100... so..

what yur doing is +1 and brakes... do not have this project done to see how it feels.. but slightly wider tract cannot hurt... but vr6 also changes the castor some... the bottom ball joint is closer to the front bumper vs stock... laying vr arm on top 4 banger arm you can see this..

i swapped the mk3 subframe into the mk2.. rack and all.. but a passat one does not fit... different mounting places.. this will effect your rear motor mount selection if you planned to use the passat one..

I think I've read that that's impossible due to where the bolt holes will fall but I could be wrong.

There is a company that makes a conversion kit and I think it works by pressing in the 5 bolt center section into the front bearing. Again, I'm not sure.

adaptic off poortex remachines the hub with different bolt holes... but the real differance is the 10mm vs 12mm lug.. one uses same hole... but yes they do duel 5x100 and 4x100 drillings...
