eco diesel cat on mtdi?
«

I have a used cat from a 92 eco diesel would it bog down my exhaust flow much if I run it on my passat? I'm sick of stinky exhaust and also hope it can cut down on some cabin noise.

How do they look inside? Are they restrictive? People keep their mk4 cats on when they make big power.. BUT they are likely different than a 92 ECO.

The ECO exhaust is fairly small. You can get a universal diesel cat from Summit for whatever size pipe. My next exhaust will be with a universal cat and a spiral flow muffler. When I get around to doing it I would like to make a recording of the before (straight pipe) and after.

2.5" turbo back.. 6" past bumper...
he also has gap in body by shifter... 02j stuiff fits like crap and there is lotsa noise too.. more w/cat and odd hollow sounds when gutted.. on gasser at least..
the loudest passat exhaust i ever used on my td stuff was the stock system... it made so much interior noise... straight pipe is so much more quiet.. and runs better

my thinking with the cat I have is to chop the pipe of at each end and weld a flange on one end and 2.5" pipe into other end and chop off muffler and run straight pipe.

I have a couple good cats up here if you need one bigger than the eco one. Got a mk4 one i think and a mk3.5 cabby one with like 100k miles on it.

My non-cat 1.9 IDI and my non-cat 1.9 TDI smell worlds different. But the 1.9 IDI smelled the same as the "catted" 1.6's and 1.9's I've smelt.

If you need a cat, get the Magnaflow diesel one. It's way less restrictive than the factory ones plus you can get it in a 2.5" or even larger size. I've got one on Jezzie.
There's a definite difference in the cat vs. non-cat smell plus there is some sound attenuation.

I am thinking about getting one of these for a reduction in smell. No emmisions inspections where I live, but I just don't want to be the stereotypical stinky diesel. Have 2" out of the turbo and 2.25" the rest of the system - I noticed in the 2" cats there is a metal core available, but in 2.25" it is ceramic only. Should I go with the bigger ceramic core, or would the smaller metallic core be the way to go?

Mine is ceramic and has been on the car for about 4 years now. I have a 2.5".
I wouldn't say the cat removes the smell, really it just changes it. My exhaust is still plenty stinky though it does smell a little less like death.

cab noise is much quiter now.
Because the exhaust exits from under the car ?
